My first module release for Website Baker is ready:
Swift Image Gallery version 0.1 (based on Imagal from sadbastard.org).
At this stage, customization is very limited, the admin backend far from being perfect, there is no check whatsoever if the files in the gallery folder are actually images and it's really only sensibly used with images that fit in the web page in original size... but hey, it works without ImageMagick and GD!
Check it out to see if you have a use for it - and learn why it's named swift! Cheesy
If anybody finds it useful (in principal) I might actually go on and improve it...
Suggestions and comments are very welcome!

This work was sponsored by Jim Hudgens - thanks, mate!

Thanks again and please let us know if this is worth developing further or if I am the only knuckle head using it.

I'm using it, but it just needs some tweaking  Cheesy

Thing is: It is very easy to modify view.php to suit everyone's specific needs (i.e. change properties or position of thumbnails).
To implement this kind of customization into the admin backend requires a little more thought which is why I'd only do it if people are generally interested in this kind of simple gallery.

For everyone who does not want to check it out:
The point is that a couple of images get preloaded and displayed as thumbnails. The image being displayed is switched using the visibility property, which means practically instantaneous (in particular without having to reload the page). This is not meant to be used like other full-fledged gallery solutions, but more in a portfolio kind of way.

So what's your thoughts about this?

@Jim: Do you have that link of your photographer friend again, so people see what I mean.

Thanks, Craig, I was asking Jim for a specific website, not just for nice pics. It's the kind of presentation where my mod would be useful.

Perfect explaination Stefan. It is more a quick way of making a portfolio. I resize my picss in photoshop first so they are all the same size. (Under File > Automate > Web gallery is a fast way)

Here is the link of what we were trying to reproduce:

Hi Stefan,
thanks for this script. It works fine except that when I try to display pictures that are in a folder above media (e.g. media/Plaatjes) they are not visible, although there are some pictures in there. I have tried different chmod settings and downloaded - deleted - uploaded media/Plaatjes folder because I was'n the owner.
WB runs smoothly and so does Swift except for this issue.

EDIT It works fine now I placed the pictures in a new directory in the root of WB and not in a /media/subdirectory

So somebody is actually using it?
If so, I will improve it a bit, make a nice language file, add some more options (thumbs per row, thumbs size, etc), use pure CSS layout for display, etc...

I need a Gallery for one of my projects. Pickle-Gallery needs imagemagic and with the other WB-gallery-modul I had problems. (see threads with .jpg couldn't be uploaded). So the only thing that aktually works fine is your swift-gallery.

What I'm looking for is a gallery, where i have a Site only with thumbnails and when you click on it you get the original-picture on a new site. For to show you what i mean, look at the Picturesite of my Bands Homepage http://www.runaway-music.de/bilder.html . This is actually a static-html coded page, but i want to create this site with the best CMS I've ever seen Cheesy , as soon as WB has and gallery-modul that works, and as soon the guestbook-modul from Phil is ready.

scry would be a good alternative to pickle.

it's quite equal to pickle but uses GD to resize the pics.

Maybe someone could code an admin-interface....

I think this script is very good for showing a portfolio of not to many images in a nice way. So answering Stefan's question if somebody is using it I can say i think people will do that. I will certainly use it. There are a few problems when i try the script. I cannot show images from a subdirectory of media (media/subdirectory). I would be nice if this could be solved. Second, when i tried to change the css file i could not do that because of permissions. When i tried to change the permissions to make it writable this was not possible???
It would also be nice to upload a whole directory at once. Is this option by the way somewhere in WB?
Also tried the gallery module, but when i click on the image the page cannot be found. Does anyone know a solution for this??
I must say that i like WB very much. I don't have any php-knowledge and tried several cms-scripts (mambo, etomite, phpwcms etc) and found WB the easiest not only to maintain but also build new websites. Very flexible. I am looking forward to version 3.
At this moment I am still playing around with WB trying to build my current  site with WB. You can see the (test) result on www.hjvisuals.nl/wb

I run a hosting company and have a bunch of clients that are photographers.  If this gallery module could be updated to allow image upload from the admin backend, etc, etc, I think I could convert a lot of my "newbie" website users to Website Baker.  This could be an ideal solution for them.

I am very interested in this mod.

I have at least 1 client site that I'm planning on using WB for, and it will need some kind of gallery.

Wow, this is an old question, but still unanswered...

I cannot show images from a subdirectory of media (media/subdirectory). I would be nice if this could be solved.
Probably you were just forgetting the trailing slash. It should be "media/subdirectory/".

This is a general problem with modules. You have to edit it before uploading. This is something that will probably change in WB3.

As far as I know there is no way to upload directories over the browser at all. So this limitation is beyond WB's reach.
